Activities such as hiking, kayaking, and canoeing are all part of the outdoorsy lifestyle in this city. Some of the most popular trailheads and access points are located close to the downtown area. Many of the state’s glaciers are also located in the Chugach.

Other fun Anchorage activities include rafting, biking, and wildlife viewing. Some wildlife one might see close to the city includes bears and moose. You may even catch a glimpse of a whale on one of the day cruises. But these aren’t the only animals you can see in the area and there are tons of tours for viewing the area’s must-see animals.

At the Alaska Native Heritage Center, there are many events and performances that bring Anchorage residents of all backgrounds together. There is also a competition which takes place each spring where schoolchildren gather together to play traditional Native games.
