How to Create Photo Collages with Students

Let your students get creative – create photo collages with BeFunky.

BeFunky is a free online photo editing tool that offers a variety of features. You don't need to be a Photoshop guru to edit photos and put on some nice finishing touches with BeFunky. However, my favorite feature of this tool is the collage creator.

Our revolutionary Collage Wizard has perfected the collage-making process. Unlike any other collage maker out there, it truly does the work for you. All you need to do is upload your photos, and the Collage Wizard will transform them into impeccably proportioned, high-resolution collages right before your eyes. It’s a magical thing. – BeFunky

We've all been there – with technology readily available at every turn, we have an abundance of photos from field trips, class projects, or day-to-day school activities. The photos are there, but it can be difficult to find the motivation to use them. With BeFunky's collage wizard, you and your students can create photo collages in a couple of minutes, and share them out with students, parents, or the world.

There are many ways you could incorporate collages into your lesson plans. Here are a couple ideas:

  1. Icebreaker project – Have students introduce themselves at the beginning of the year with a personalized collage. They can include a couple photos of themselves, and also images of things important to them (pets, hobbies, sports teams, or other special interests). Also have them include their name to help you and everyone else recall each others' names later on. Don't forget to do your own for the class, too! :)
  2. Project cover – Students can develop their own collage as a cover for their latest project. They'll love getting creative choosing images that relate to the contents of their projects.
  3. Event summary – Going on a field trip or taking part in a school activity? Have students create a collage of their favorite photos from the event.

No matter how you end up using collages in your classroom, make sure to put them up on display for your school's next open house. Parents will love looking at all of the things you're engaging students with on a daily basis.

So what do you think? Are you going to give BeFunky a try with your students? Let me know how it went, and please leave me a comment on this article.
