Not Another Paper! Alternative Projects Using Social Media – FETC 2010

Tom Daccord, co-director of EdTechTeacher and co-author Best Ideas for Teaching with Technology had a great presentation about incorporating social media in the classroom instead of using boring papers (that probably aren't sparking your students' interest anyway). Check out this short video to see what his presentation was all about!

“The future belongs to a very different kind of person with a very different kind of mind—creators and empathizers, pattern recognizers, and meaning makers.” ~A Whole New Mind: Moving From the Information Age to the Conceptual

This quote brings home Tom Daccord’s whole basis of his presentation at FETC about allowing students to embark on alternatives to paper projects. Tom’s response to why students are going to websites like Facebook and YouTube are “because they want to have an audience to express themselves to, there are low barriers to artistic expression, and they believe their contributions matter and feel a degree of social connection.”

Do you agree? Disagree? Let’s discuss!
