Beat the Crowds with these Spring Break Vacations

Spring Break is a great time of year for teachers to relax and catch up on some vitamin D, and it's right around the corner... but many popular vacation destinations can be crowded, and full of students. If you’re looking for a more subdued and relaxed environment this year, here is a list of alternative Spring Break locations you might want to consider:

1. Jupiter, FL

Two hours north of the quintessential Spring Break destination of Miami, and just 30 minutes north of West Palm Beach, sits the small beach town of Jupiter, FL. This town has all the same beautiful beaches and warm weather, but without the crowds. You can also take a stroll down their Riverwalk, take a Sunset tour of their lighthouse, go kayaking in Burt Reynolds Park, or take a boat tour. 2. Big Sky, MT

For those of you who aren’t interested in hitting up the beach this year, try visiting the ski resort at Big Sky. Ski season doesn’t end until mid-April, and March provides great weather conditions for the sport. If skiing isn’t your thing, several other activities are available. Try taking a sleigh ride, going on a snowmobile tour, or zip-lining. Big Sky is also located close to Yellowstone National Park, so you can take in some of the scenic beauty while you’re there too. 3. San Francisco, CA

Typical Spring Breaks fall right in between San Francisco’s on and off season. Try driving down the most crooked road, climbing up Coit Tower, taking a tour of the infamous Alcatraz, and eating free samples at the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory. There is so much to do in this city, but it is not a typical Spring Break destination, so it is a perfect time to visit. Click here to find more activities in San Francisco.

4. Rosemary Beach, FL

About 30 minutes west of the popular Spring Break destination of Panama City Beach, is the lesser-known Rosemary Beach. The shopping and dining district are all within walking, or biking, distance of this small community. Rosemary Beach offers four pools, and is located off of the scenic route of 30A, which offers fishing charters and boat tours. For more information on visiting, click here.

5. Smith Mountain Lake, VA

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains is the scenic Smith Mountain Lake. This area is known more for its summer activities, but there are plenty of hiking trails through the surrounding mountains, and opportunities for camping and fishing. Take in some of the natural beauty Virginia has to offer from the comfort of a cozy cabin and watch as the spring flowers begin to bloom. Click here for more information about Smith Mountain Lake.

6. St. Augustine, FL

Although this used to be a more popular spot for Spring Breakers, most of the attention has shifted south. St. Augustine is rather busy in general, but it is not any busier during Spring Break. Visitors can experience America’s Oldest City by exploring Castillo De San Marcos, climbing the famous St. Augustine lighthouse, and strolling through the historic district on a walking tour. Flagler College is also located in the heart of town and boasts some of the most beautiful Spanish Renaissance style architecture. For more ideas on activities in St. Augustine, click here.
