This is session one of six for the series titled Literacy Projects for Adolescent English Learners

NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on-demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.

Workshop Description:
Chances are that your English Learners already have experience creating their own videos and sharing them with an audience, so why not have them apply their acquired language skills and content knowledge through a video project? Join Shelly Terrell as she shares how to use free, education-friendly video production tools to increase student engagement, including scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help students complete their projects. Participants will also have an opportunity to access done-for-you templates to create their own video project that they can immediately use with their students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evaluate a variety of free, education-friendly video production tools appropriate for adolescent English Learners in grades 4-12
  • Develop scaffolds, supports, and strategies to help English Learners complete their own video projects
  • Create a content-specific video project for English Learners that enhances the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing

Special Technology Instructions: Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop. Teachers will also have the option to choose from a menu of tools, including Vocaroo, MakeBeliefsComix, Genially, Canva, and Google Suite.

Assessment: Participants will create a content-specific video project to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
