What Is A Hashtag? What Does Hashtag Mean?
According to the wikipedia hashtag definition, “a hashtag is mostly used as un-moderated discussion forums or any combination of characters led by a pound sign is a hashtag”.
If promoted by enough individuals, the word can “trend” and attract more individual users to discussion. Hashtags also function as beacons in order for users to “find” and “follow” ( subscribe) or “list” (organize into public contact lists) other users of similar interest.
Using Twitter Hashtags To Learn
To be a connected educator you don’t have to use twitter. You can still benefit by using Twitter search to find relevant hashtags for your classroom. You do not have to be signed in. You will see everything you can see if you were a member of Twitter.
Start your own hashtag search by typing in the word, ed chat and find an up-to-the-minute record of what is being tweeted regarding education. If something has been re-tweeted a lot of times than it is most likely on the radar of the majority of educators using Twitter. You can find the cream-of-the-crop information to share with your students across a multitude of subject areas.
