If you love sharing stories with your students, this quality read aloud resource is for you.
Check out the video above as SimpleK12 technology trainer Monica Burns shares how to find some top-notch read alouds with Storyline Online. This website is a joy to use, and she covers all the highlights in just 3 minutes.
Storyline Online features classic books read aloud by award-winning actors and actresses. Many of the stories featured on the site you may remember from your own childhood, or they may be something you’ve read with your students already.
Each book includes a video with a brief interaction, followed by the story itself. Each actor puts a great amount of emotion into each read aloud, and the addition of music and movement on the pages makes these stories come to life. These are no ordinary read alouds — these videos are a joy to watch and share with students. Each story also comes with an activity guide to give you a few ideas on how to use the video with students, and what follow-up activities you might consider.
For more on classroom read alouds, take a look at Historical Fiction Read Alouds: Bring American History to Life. Join Monica Burns as she shares an annotated list of books she has used in her classroom to help her students learn about important events and people in American History. These texts are perfect for teachers looking for content area books to use for literacy instruction, or for teachers in a Social Studies classroom looking to excite their students with historical fiction picture books.
Take a quick look at one of my personal favorites on Storyline Online, Harry the Dirty Dog, read by Betty White. What do you think of it? Let me know on a comment on this article.
