This is session five of six for the series titled Beginning Teachers: A Guide to Support Your Teaching Journey

NOTE: While we recommend that you attend all sessions of the workshop series to meet the learning objectives, each workshop can be attended as a standalone. Full members will also have access to view the recordings on-demand and earn up to six continuing education credits.

Workshop description: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is an instructional approach where learning experiences are pro-actively designed with options that are accessible for every learner, while Differentiated Instruction (DI) is a responsive practice where adjustments are made based on the individual needs of the students. Join Dr. Samantha Fecich as she shares strategies to help beginning teachers integrate technology and UDL to differentiate instruction, including best practices for monitoring student progress data to make instructional decisions.​

Dr. Samantha Fecich teaches preservice teachers (future teachers) at Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. She has the honor and the pleasure of working with them in their courses related to educational technology and special education.

Objectives

  • Compare and contrast the similarities and differences between Universal Design for Learning and Differentiated Instruction.
  • Discover how to use technology and UDL to differentiate instruction including best practices for monitoring student progress data to make instructional decisions.

Special Technology Instructions

Participants will need access to an internet device and a non-school, personal Google account. SimpleK12’s Google Classroom will be utilized for the interactive and hands-on components of this workshop.

Assessment

Participants will use the templates and resources provided to design a lesson, assignment, or assessment for the upcoming school year to demonstrate their understanding of the workshop objectives and reflect on their learning.
