Possible Model Teaching Routine

Looking for a model teaching routine?

Could your teaching routine use some work? Thankfully, I found an amazing model teaching routine on Twitter. I watch social media closely and it's my job to share some of the hot topics on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and other outlets that teachers, principals, students, and parents are contributing.

Looking for inspiration this school year? This model teaching routine infographic I found posted on Alex Corbitt‘s Twitter might just do the trick. The graphic he shared, designed by Urban Teacher, illustrates six different stages to a teaching routine. You can see that image below.

The first stage listed is “connect.” This is the introduction stage, where teachers greet their students, explain the learning objectives, and get their attention with quick activities. Next, you give a “demonstration,” where you show the students what they need to learn. After that there is an activity where you begin to let the students take control of their learning. However, during the activities, you facilitate, guiding the students through the challenges you set while letting them make their own discoveries during their learning. After these activities, you organize the students into groups so they can collaborate with each other. The final stage is to “consolidate” their learning. Here, you challenge the student again, this time with questions tailored to their abilities.

What do you think of this model teaching routine? How does it compare to your own routine? Do you have any tips for teachers trying to switch to a routine like this?
