Description
How do you move from an exciting integration idea to an actual lesson? What makes an integrated literacy and social studies lesson truly impactful? In this final session of the Pages & Pasts series, Dr. Dr. Ronnie Doughty walks you through how to design and deliver cross-curricular lessons that are purposeful, engaging, and standards-aligned. You'll use a familiar topic and text to begin crafting an integrated lesson plan that connects essential literacy skills—like analysis, argument, or vocabulary development—with historical content. You'll also participate in a peer feedback process using a simple checklist and commit to the next step for making integration a sustainable part of your instructional practice.
Objectives
Recall steps in designing an integrated literacy and content-area lesson. Describe what makes a lesson engaging and standards aligned. Build a lesson outline using a topic, source, and ELA task. Use a checklist to assess peer lesson ideas. Reflect on your lesson's strengths and areas for improvement. Finalize and commit to your next instructional step.
